SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE ARTIST INTERNSHIPS

After a very successful intake last year, Weta Digital are very pleased to again be offering SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE ARTIST INTERNSHIPS across a variety of roles.


VIRTUAL ART

 

The Virtual Art Department are looking for a CG generalist for a summer artist internship. Our VAD team is responsible for preparing assets and scenes for use in realtime for use by TD’s through the Weta Digital facility and for Motion Capture. This includes modeling, texturing, and scene assembly, realtime look development.

 

Ideally we would love for you to have an understanding of VFX production, including the following:

 

  • Skills with Maya - skills in, modelling, rigging, animation and look development
  • Understanding of real time rendering requirements
  • Knowledge of low resolution modeling techniques

 

We are particularly looking for candidates

 

  • good communicators with an eye for composition
  • who demonstrate passion and dedication
  • strong lateral thinking and self management.

 

LIGHTING

 

The lighting team is responsible for providing rendered elements for shots. Those responsibilities include scene assembly, crafting digital lighting, rendering images, compositing these rendered images with other 2d elements

 

The ideal candidate is both artistic and technical. An appreciation of VFX production is required

 

Desired skills include the following:

 

  • Analytical reasoning & problem solving
  • Skills with Maya
  • Skills with CG lighting and rendering - Arnold, Renderman, Vray, etc
  • Solid understanding of shading
  • Knowledge of compositing
  • Understanding of python
  • Understanding of databases and data analytics
  • Organizational skills

 

We are particularly looking for candidates

 

  • with good communication skills & an eye for realism
  • who demonstrate passion and dedication for this work

 


MATTE PAINTING

 

The Digital Matte Painting team is responsible for creating digital environments and live action set extensions utilizing both 2D and 3D methodologies. Candidates would assist the Matte Painters with various aspects of production work. Responsibilities could include reference gathering and sorting, Digital Painting / Image-Manipulation, updating 3D scene/ photoshop/ compositing files, managing renders.

 

The role is both artistic and technical and requires a disposition and capacity for both.

 

Skills

  • Passion for Creating Digital Art and VFX specifically in regards to Environments.
  • Demonstrated excellence in image making.
  • Must enjoy working collaboratively and be welcoming to feedback and criticism.
  • Interest in a variety of aspects of CG including Modeling, Look-Dev, Lighting and Compositing
  • Experience with Photoshop, Maya, Nuke or equivalent Software.
  • Good problem solving and communication skills.
  • Background in Painting, Drawing, Photography beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Linux helpful

VR

 

Our VR team is researching next generation entertainment technology using head mounted displays and other emerging technologies.

The VR team are looking for an Unreal Engine 4 enthusiast for a summer artist internship. Our VR team appreciates the CG Generalist with specific skills in working with real time game engines particularly the Unreal Engine 4.

 

Ideally we would love for you to have experience in crafting high quality games and/or VR experiences along with an understanding of VFX production,

 

We are looking particularly the following:

  • Skills with Unreal Engine 4
  • Skills with Maya
  • Understanding of game development and gameplay programming
  • Understanding of creature rigging and animations
  • Understanding of real time look development

 

We are particularly looking for candidates

  • good communicators with an eye for detail
  • who demonstrate passion and dedication
